Gary JONES Obituary
JONES
Rev. Gary passed away on April 4, 2015 at Doverwood Village. Gary was born in Evansville, IN in 1932. He was reared by his maternal grandparents, Ira and Elizabeth Lockhart and an uncle and aunt, George and Mary Fleeger. They preceded him in death as did his mother and father and a daughter, Jennifer. Gary was salutatorian of his High School class. He attended Indiana University at Bloomington, University of Evansville and Olivet Nazarene University. He Pastored the Monroe Church of the Nazarene for eighteen years and served as Assistant Superintendent of the Southwestern Ohio District Church of the Nazarene for twelve years. Gary is survived by his wife Doloris (nee Owens) Jones, Son Jeffrey of Dayton, Son Jerry (Pam) of Monroe, a special granddaughter Lindsey (Phillip) Cooley of Dayton, other grandchildren, a special cousin Rita Fleeger (Mike) Rust of Newburgh, IN, two sisters and a brother. Visitation will be Thursday, April 9 6pm-8pm at West Chester Church of the Nazarene, 7951 Tylersville Rd. The Funeral Service will be Friday, April 10 at 1:00pm at the Church with a second visitation starting at 12 noon that day. Burial will be at Mound Cemetery in Monroe following the service. Dear Mrs. Jones:
I was reading the Evansville Courier when I learned of Rev. Jones passing. I have very fond memories of Rev. Jones when he was pastor of the Nazarene Church in Corydon, Kentucky. You and Rev. Jones were wonderful leaders for the children of that little church, and I just wamt to say that there will always be a special place in my heart for you and your family. May God bless you, Jeffery, and Jerry in these difficult times. I was also sorry to learn of Jennifer's passing. Jennifer and I were good friends at that time, and I have wonderful memories of her and I attending Vacation Bible School together, and sitting together in church. My sincere condolences on the loss of both Jennifer and Rev. Jones.

I had the pleasure of working with Rev. Jones on Northwest Indiana and Southwestern Ohio Districts serving on various boards, the last one on the Credentials board. He was a good leader and a man of God. We cannot be with you but we extend our prayers and sympathy during this time.

I have fond memories of Rev. Jones when he was pastor of Monroe Nazarene Church. At that time, I rented space there for my nursery school and he was always so cooperative, supportive and pleasant. My sincere sympathy to the family.

I had the pleasure of meeting and caring for Gary in his last weeks of life. He was admitted into the facility where I work. He and I hit it off right away when I told him I could find him some raspberry sherbet. He brightened every one of my work days just knowing he was there. Just something about him was very calming. Every time he called, I walked in his room where I was always greeted with something like there's my reliable Kristin or here's my girl. I'd sit with him on my breaks. He just had interesting stories to tell. He said old country songs were running through his mind so sometimes he'd sing them and I'd play name that tune. I wish I could have taken care of him until the end. Knowing I could not, we said our goodbyes which broke my heart. I believe people are brought into our lives for a reason and that our paths are supposed to meet. Meeting Gary made me a better person. This man will definitely be missed.
