Robert passed away, at the age of 92, at his daughters' home in Denton, MD. His beloved wife of 69 years, Helen Hippert, died in 2011.
Robert is survived by his children Signe, Patricia, and Charles (MaryAnne); his grandchildren Robert Russell (Linnea), Koren Russell, Jesse McQuarrie (Heidi), and Amanda Keith (Alan); his six great grandchildren; and his cousin, Bonnie Dury and her husband, Mel Bauer.
Bob was raised in Cincinnati, graduated from Hughes HS in 1938, and attended University of Cincinnati before joining the Army Air Corps. He served in WWII as a navigator on a B25 with the 11th Bomber Group stationed in India and China. He was awarded the Silver Star. Bob completed active duty in 1946, continued military service in the Air Force Reserve and retired as a Lt. Col. In 1968.
After completing active duty, he continued his education at UC, graduated in 1948 and attended graduate school at Syracuse University. He worked for Naval Intelligence/Targets in Washington, DC, Martin in Baltimore, Bunker Ramo in Canoga Park, CA and retired from the Federal Railroad Administration in Washington.
Bob and Helen retired to Santa Rosa, CA where Bob spent time studying real estate, viticulture and enology. In 1992 they returned to Cincinnati where Bob enjoyed taking and teaching classes at UC Lifetime Learning Institute, attending Hughes HS reunions and Sons of Norway. In retirement Bob and Helen traveled throughout the U.S. on Elderhostel trips and visiting family and friends.
Robert has donated his body to UC College of Medicine.
