Landis
Christopher Andrew Landis ("Drew") was born October 28, 1986 to Edward and Carol Jeanne Landis in Jakarta, Indonesia. Drew was the younger brother to Adrian and the older brother to Ted and Andrea. Growing up, Drew enjoyed reading, playing baseball and basketball and adventures with siblings and friends through the hills surrounding the Landis' home in Independence, Kentucky.
Drew was homeschooled by his mother through 10th grade. Drew graduated in 2004 from Calvary Christian School. He attended a Discipleship Training School through Youth With a Mission in Colorado, with a missions outreach in India. He worked with Samaritan's Purse in the tsunami relief in Sumatra in 2005. Drew attended Grove City College, and sold books door-to-door with Southwest Book Company in the summers. Drew graduated in 2009 with a degree in History. He attended one year of law school at Salmon Chase School of Law prior to joining the Army in 2011. He continued his sense of adventure through mountaineering in the lower 48 states.
Drew was killed on February 10, 2014 in Parwan, Afghanistan. Drew is survived by his parents, siblings, sister-in-law Sarah Jayne and nephews Judah and Eli. His visitation will be Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m., with a one hour break for family, and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church, 9379 Gunpowder Rd, Florence, KY 41042. I would simply like to say I am so sorry for your loss, but because of people like Mr. Christopher we can all enjoy our freedoms. I am a senior at Winfield High School and we were assigned a project today. Each of us was to look up a fallen hero that was related to us in some way. My father's name is Chris so this is how I came upon Christopher A. Landis. I am so thankful that I can play basketball which I love so much, watch all of my favorite t.v. shows such as "Friends", and to be able to do these things freely I will be forever greatful for. I know words will never be able to take away your pain and loss, but again, I am very sorry for your loss but I am thankful for men and women who fight for our country so we can be free. Y'all will forever be in my thoughts and prayers. Just know that you are never alone in your battle.
If you would like to contact me you can do so by emailing my teacher at [email protected]

Forever I remember this week as it is when I lost my own father, Ed's eldest uncle, David Leaman Hess, Jr. (1921-February 14, 1958) and in 1958 CJ's father, Dr. Clarence Rutt, was one of my Dad's attending doctors at LGH. I was 11 years old and my father was 36 years old. My 36 year old mother was left with 5 young children… and now in 2014 Drew was killed on February 10 in his 28th year. Our tears flow for both of these great men… both great losses… and all I can say is love, hugs, and prayers in the midst of these painful times.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Christopher will never be forgotten.
For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part. I salute you.
For those missing in action;for those who didn't make it home.I know you're in God's presence you are not alone. For every neatly folded flag;for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory. I salute you, allow me the honorto salute you with permission let me say even though I hold no rank know that from my heart my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part. I salute you.
I Salute You.

To the family and friends of SPC CHRISTOPHER LANDIS, everyone in the Fort Bragg area feels his loss. We are fiercely proud of our Airborne warriors, and owe all of them a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. Now Christopher is gone far too soon, and all of us will have less light in our worlds. I am always filled with gratitude for his patriotic service to America, and for those who supported him and mentored him in his efforts. God bless you SPC LANDIS. Your mission is complete.
