RUFNER

Donald H. Rufner, 87, passed away January 29, 2014. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Peggy Rufner (nee Fraser) and his parents, Frank and Wilma (nee Barnard) Rufner, of Lebanon, Ohio. He is survived by son, Rick Rufner of Denver, Colorado, daughter, Deb Rufner of Maineville, Ohio, grandsons Dan and Kevin Rufner, granddaughter Britt Larson, great-grandchildren Brady, Annika, Bryce, and Audrey Rufner; brother Joe (Millie) Rufner and sister Carol (Len) Ghearing plus numerous nieces and nephews and friends who will all miss his sense of humor, his contagious grin, and the twinkle in his eye. Peg and Don lived in Honolulu after their marriage in 1946 while Don worked for the Corps of Engineers. They returned to Lebanon, Ohio, in 1948, and later lived in Kettering, Centerville, Denver, and Phoenix where he became an avid golfer before moving back to Ohio in 2001. In 1948 Don began work as an accountant at Monsanto Chemical Company, eventually serving as the chief accountant at its plant in Dayton, OH. He retired from Monsanto at the young age of 55 and he and Peg spent many years traveling to all 50 states and around the world. He also did the bookkeeping and worked as Peg's assistant in the management of the National Association of School Nurses during their retirement years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Erich Kunzel Pops Legacy Fund, 1241 Elm St., Cincinnati, OH 45202. A celebration of life will be held on April 21, 2014 at 6:00 pm at the Clubhouse at Heritage at Miami Bluffs, 1477 Heritage Blvd., Maineville, OH.
