HOLBERT

Joan L. Parr, age 77, graduated into the Kingdom of Our Heavenly Father on July 31, 2012 after complications from Type I diabetes. She was loved and cared for by her husband of 59 years. Joan was married to Robert Carl Holbert on June 14th, 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland in St. Johns Methodist church. Joan was a graduate of Eastern Hills Girls High School of Baltimore, Maryland. Bob met Joan while they were employed by the G. C. Murphy Company, one of the oldest 5 & 10 stores. Bob always told everyone that Joan was his 'Million Dollar Baby.' (You know the song.) She was 18, just graduated and was employed in the office of Ruben Donnelly Corp. in Baltimore, Maryland. Bob was in the manager training program at Murphy's as the supervisor of the stockroom. Joan was the daughter of Esther Jackins and William H. Parr. Her mother lost her life during child birth when Joan was 8 years old. Joan was the loving mother of Robert Oarl, who passed away at the age of forty; Melissa Doswell of Mobile, Alabama with two children, Jazmine & Chelsea; Jennifer Hamp of Houston, Texas with five children, Joshua, Danielle (with granddaughter Kaylin), Faith, and twins, Chad & Heidi; and Bruce Holbert of Dallas, Georgia with two children, Jonah and Emmye. She is survived by her half-sister Nellie Trigger of Pasadena, Maryland. Joan was employed by Showe Management Corp, Columbus, Ohio for 21 years as the regional property manager in the Cincinnati-Dayton area holding all Property Management Certificates plus Ohio Real Estate license. During her husband's employment with the G. C. Murphy Company, she volunteered at the hospitals in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, & Ashland, Kentucky. She was later employed with the hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Joan was a true lover of the Canine family. She was a trainer in Obedience and Confirmation and showed Australian terriers while winning a wall full of trophies and ribbons. Later in life she fell in love with Therapy Dog Training and became an instructor and examiner for graduation of therapy dogs as to be able to enter hospitals to bring joy to patients. She was an active member & officer of the Clermont County Dog Training Club for many years. Joan was a convert of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints along with her husband and children while living in Annapolis, MD and was an active member holding many positions from Sunday school teacher to Relief Society President. Due to her husband's employment, she lived as far west as Texas, as far south as Jacksonville, Florida, and as far north as Nazareth, Pennsylvania. She found the church to be a haven of support where ever her husband was transferred.
