John Reinard "Jack" SHAFFER

John SHAFFER Obituary

SHAFFER

John (Jack) Reinard Shaffer, loving husband of LaVerne (nee Berding) for 64 years. Devoted father of Jay (Janice) Shaffer, Ann (Paul) Oulton, Mark (Huong) Shaffer, Cindy (Tom) Huber and Jon (Becca) Shaffer. Proud grandfather of Justin, Heather, Rowan, Chris and Bronwynn. Dear brother of Barbara Spring and the late Jean Schuckers. Age 88. Despite numerous health challenges, Jack passed away peacefully at Fort Hamilton Hospital August 17. Born and raised on the Green Valley Farm in Brookville Pennsylvania, Jack served in World War II by joining the U.S. Army upon high school graduation. While he was in Officer Training School at the University of Cincinnati, he met LaVerne at a USO dance. After the war, they were married and he began a career with the Proctor and Gamble Company working at both Winton Hill and Sharon Woods in technical foodservice and packaging. Retiring after 36 years, Jack and LaVerne traveled the world. Jack loved tennis and played doubles until he was 85. He spent hours in his work shop where he crafted many treasures including chess board sets, jewelry boxes and his final project, a doll house for his youngest granddaughter. He enjoyed reading, working on his computer, his membership in the Metallic Club and his weekly coffee date with his neighborhood buddies. In keeping with his spirit of learning, Jack has donated his body to the University of Cincinnati Medical College. Services will be private. Donations in Jack's honor can be made to the charity of your choice.

I worked with Jack in the early 1980s at Procter & Gamble. He was a great professor and a good friend. He will be missed. Steve
