I think and pray for you everyday, as well as Lisa, Lynley, Amy and Tim. Tears come when I think of you gone from us, but I remember Mom saying not to mourn for those in Paradise...where you are with Mom, Dad, Dave, Gram and Ruthie and all our loved ones. God bless you Mike...Barb

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
- Mary Elizabeth Frye

God bless Uncle Mike. I know your spirit will be felt in our everyday lives.

Coach Burns touched the lives of many through his ability to relate with kids and help them reach the potential he saw in them. Many times he saw more in kids than they did in themselves. Rest in peace Coach Burns, you will be missed dearly!

Coach Burns was very dear to me. He was always there for me through the tough times as well as those we celebrated. He taught me to make the best out of life's curve balls. He will be missed by many.

I was between teaching jobs in the early 80s, so I substitute taught at several schools, including Erlanger Lloyd. Although it's been many years since I saw Mr. Burns, I do remember him as an amiable and helpful gentleman. I once asked him how the Juggernaut football players felt about his being a coach at Covington Catholic (a school that Lloyd then played) and he said that he had never discerned any ill feelings. I'm sure that this was due to the fact that Mr. Burns was such a popular and likeable man.

"A teacher affects eternity: He can never tell where his influence stops." -Henry Adams. This is so true of you, Mr. Burns. Generations of students at Lloyd were profoundly impacted because you cared enough to demand more of us and think more of us than we tended to of ourselves. It started with respect, which was given to you deservedly and we then fought to earn yours by grades, by behavior, by thinking and developing into what you believed we could be. Your influence began for me in 1986, but it has not stopped. You were a phenomenal teacher and an amazing man. My thoughts and prayers are with your family now as they grieve your loss.

Grandpa you are the best I'm gonna miss you a lot but I know your in a better place. By now you probably have a football team up there in heaven. I love you so much. I really look up to you. I remember when you would always give some advise about sports and I would take it and try to be the best I could be. I love you and I'll see you in paradise one day.

Coach Burns taught me in high school at Lloyd. I liked him in high school but when my oldest son went to Highlands and I saw how much my son loved him and how much he truely cared about the kids he taught and coached, I realized what a great man he really was. My heart goes out to you all and I hope you can find peace in knowing he is resting peacefully now. Thanks Coach Burns for all you did for my son. Janet Hermes

Mr. Burns was one of my favorite teachers at Highlands. He inspired a love of history and a sense of civic responsibility in generations of students, and despite his formidable presence in the classroom, he was a warm and caring individual who was devoted to his classes. He'll truly be missed by the generations of students whose lives he helped to shape.

October 21, 2012

So many memories from our childhood...being your little sister you taught me to hit a ball, throw a football, and make 10 baskets in a row. You taught me that I could do anything, if I tried my best. You were an example to our family, and
taught us to work hard, respect the gifts we were given and live with respect and dignity. You were Tim's hero, my protector, and Dave's best friend. Thanks Big Brother for all the love. Rest in Peace and know that the love will never end. God bless and keep you. Love, Your Sis Barb

Life's cruelest jest is the giving of a special being...and then the taking away. The turning of that shining star over to death. And we grieve.
Still, if we listen deeply, there is the solace and comforts of thanksgiving and memory and gratitude..that such a one came our way. Forever my brother.

An incredible teacher and mentor and always referred to reverently as "Mr. Burns" or "Coach Burns" because of the respect we had for him. Rarely does one person so greatly touch so many others' lives in such positive ways. Anyone who was lucky enough to have any interaction with him should be grateful for that honor. He will be missed from near and far. RIP, Mr. Burns. And thank you for everything.
