Ralph Chapman, age 52, of Cincinnati, formerly of Oxford, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at Indiana University Medical Center. He was born on July 14, 1961 in Oxford, Ohio, son of the late Richard S. Donnell, Jr. and Lorraine Chapman Donnell. Ralph was a 1979 graduate of Talawanda High School. He graduated from Miami University in 1983 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business. His last place of employment was Christ Hospital Health Alliance where he was Budget Director. Ralph was enrolled at the time of his death at the University of Cincinnati, Blue Ash Campus, where he was studying Animal Science. He was interested in animals and their welfare, plants and trees, the outdoors, ecology, baseball and the OSU Buckeyes. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. Ralph is survived by his mother Lorraine C. Donnell, his steadfast support and companion through his constant bouts and struggles with illness. He is also survived by four siblings and their families: Susan (William) Mescher and nieces Molly and Jennie of West College Corner, IN, Leslie (Brian) Black of Oxford, OH, Richard (Mary Ann) Donnell and niece Emma and nephew Nicholas of Uncasville, CT, and nephew Robert (Erin) and great nephews Ryan and Liam of Mobile, AL, and John (Karen) Donnell and nephew Benjamin and niece Alexandra of Amesbury, MA. Ralph will be deeply missed. His life was cut short by Crohn's disease and its devastating effects and complications. He fought the disease for thirty years with unending bravery, determination and tenacity. He hoped in doing so that his efforts would help others by contributing to understanding of Crohn's disease, medical science and advancements in treatment. Memorial contributions in memory of Ralph may be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America ( or to the organization of your choice. A gathering in celebration of Ralph's life will be held at a later date. The Ogle & Paul R. Young Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
