Shirley M. GARDNER Obituary


Shirley M. Gardner, beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother, was called home to the Lord on Friday,September 20, 2013, following complications from a brief illness at Faxton-St. Lukes Hospital. She spent her final few days at the Presbyterian Home in Palliative Care. Shirley was born on November 1, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she was raised and educated. She was an accomplished pianist and organist with her Church in Cincinnati. Shirley was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Hascher) Stehr. Shirley was married to Raymond J. Gardner, on November 6, 1948 and with whom they shared a 64 year long honeymoon. Prior to marriage, Shirley was employed in the insurance business as well as in her Parent's Stehrilize Dry Cleaning business in Silverton, Ohio. Shortly after marriage, and completion of Ray's Engineering degree, they lived in Fort Wayne, IN and eventually settled in Utica, NY in 1959. There they raised their family where Ray worked and retired from G.E. In 1987. Shirley also worked for a time at Sunset School in Utica where she enjoyed working with the children. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Shirley is survived by her husband Ray, and 5 children: Son and Daughter-in-Law, Kenneth and Debra Gardner, of Thousand Oaks, CA. Daughter and Son-in-Law, Barbara and Steven Kaminski, of Birmingham, AL. Son, Paul, of Utica, NY. Daughter, Linda Orioli of Syracuse, NY and her long-time companion, Randy Colella. Daughter and Son-in-Law, Donna and Mark Kistner of Atlanta, GA. Her 4 cherished Grandchildren: Melissa Orioli of Rochester, NY. Brandon, Jenna and Austin Kistner, of Atlanta,GA. Shirley is also survived by her Sister, Fay Bach, of Cincinnati, OH. Nephew, William and Mary Jo Bach of Cincinnati. Brother-in-law, Don (deceased) and wife, Anna Mae Gardner and their 11 children. Sister-in-Law, Dorothy Hare and her Son, Robert, Jr. of Cincinnati. Remaining life long dearest friends', including Gloria Peach & Rod Murad. With Many dear neighbors' over the years as well. We extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Brehaut, Dr. Desai and Dr.Vakio's, and her primary care provider, Dr. Burke. Also to the caring and staff at Faxton-St.Lukes Hospital and the Presbyterian Home for all of their excellent care and compassion during Shirley's stays. Visitation Thursday, Sept. 26th from 11:00AM - 1:00PM at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home 10211 Plainfield Rd. (just south nof Glendale-Milford Rd.). Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Rest Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a favorite .
