Sherry BARNES Obituary


Sherry Don Barnes, Born 8-13-1933 in Lawrenceburg, IN died 3-18-2014, Cottingham Retirement Community, Cincinnati, OH. Preceded in death by parents, Marie (McCracken) Barnes and John G. Barnes, and grandmother, Josephine McCracken. Sherry leaves behind the grieving members of the Class of 1956, College of Nursing and Health, University of Cincinnati, OH, her loving friend and guardian, Diane Dransfield, Jan Kellogg, plus countless others who knew and loved Sherry. She will be missed for her quick wit, a well-developed sense of humor, intelligence, and wonderful laugh. Sherry knew how to be a good listener and a dear friend. She loved to play bridge and often won at bingo. Sherry graduated from Lawrenceburg Consolidated High School. In addition to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati; she graduated in 1959 from the University of Colorado with a Master of Nursing Education. Her nursing career took her from a Veteran's Administration Hospital in New York City, to Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, to the role of a nursing educator at the University of Cincinnati, College of Nursing and Health and then Associate Professor of Nursing at Northern Kentucky University for many years. Her students admired and loved her. Sherry's Cincinnati friends from the Class of '56 will continue to miss her presence from our monthly lunch meetings. The graveside service will be March 28th at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery, OH. Gwen Mooney Funeral Home, Elden Good Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at Memorial contributions may be given to the Cottingham Retirement Community, 3995 Cottingham Drive, Cincinnati, OH or Lighthouse Youth Services, 401 East McMillan Street, Cincinnati, OH 45206. A mass will be celebrated in her honor at later date.
