SCAHILL

John Paul "Jack", beloved husband of Joan (nee Ahlers) Scahill and son of the late George and Lucille (nee Hopkins) Scahill, brother-in-law of Donald B. and Joan M. Ahlers, the late Carol Ann and Robert Marck, Phyllis and Russell Nordman, also survived by several nieces and nephews and cousin Katherine Meyer. Passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at age 86. John graduated from St. Xavier High School and from the University of Cincinnati's College of Liberal Arts and College of Law. He had been in the practice of law since 1952 and was admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court of Ohio and the Supreme Court of the United States of America. He served in the Army Air Corps as an instructor in Air Training Command and Captain in the Judge Advocate General Department of the Air Force Reserves. His areas of practice included matters relating to real estate, corporate and probate law as well as matters relating to the construction industry and land use law, representing private property owners and public agencies. As a Cincinnati Assistant Solicitor for 20 years, he represented the City of Cincinnati negotiation of the sale of Crosley Field, Queensgate, and the land for the development of the riverfront, particularly the Reds Cinergy ballpark. He served as Assistant Attorney General of Ohio. He was engaged in the litigation aspects of urban develpment law, appropriation trial work and zoning matters. He served as a right-of-way attorney and consultant throughout Hamilton, Butler and Clermont Counties. He published articles on Eminent Domain and he was a frequent speaker before professional real estate and appraisal societies in the academic area. He was also an instructor of Business Law at the college level. He was very active on a pro bono basis with the Volunteer Lawyers for the Poor Foundation. Mr. Scahill leaves his wife Joan and numerous friends and colleagues. He was an avid reader and, together with his wife, he traveled to over 60 countries and almost all of the states. He was a member of the University Club, Cincinnati Art Museum, the Taft Museum, Cincinnati Bar Association and the Merriemaker Dance Club. Over the years he was involved in various community, civic and charitable fund-raising activities. Visitation at St. Clare Church, 1445 Cedar Ave., College Hill, Monday from 9:30 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM.
