Walter P. beloved husband of the late Jean (nee McAvoy) Santel and Rita (Overbeck) Santel. Loving father of Barbara Arnold, Timothy Santel and step-father of Walter Overbeck. Devoted grandfather of Melissa Ecton, David Arnold, Sara Humphrey, Joshua Arnold, Tim Santel, Kristen Santel-Kirkpatrick, Susie Santel. Cherished great-grandfather of 11. Mr. Santel proudly served his country in WWII serving in the Army Air Corp. He enlisted in June 1944 and was honorable discharged in July 1946. He was a bombardier navigator on AB26OW. On his 16th mission he was shot down over France and was wounded while trying to avoid capture by a German patrol. He was captured on February 14, 1945 and was eventually liberated on December 4, 1945. He was then transported to a hospital in France and was returned to the United States shortly after. After being discharged he began a 40 year career in the newspaper business. Starting out as a carrier for the Cincinnati Enquirer in the West Side of Cincinnati and eventually becoming the office manager in the Circulation Department, rising to Circulation Director. He was a past president of the Ohio Circulation Association, serving for a number of years. As well as serving many other Circulation Boards and Offices. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones. May 15, 2014. Age 91 years. Visitation will be Monday May 19th from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Radel Funeral Home, 650 Neeb Road, 451-8800. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday May 20th 10:00 A.M. at Little Flower Catholic Church, 5560 Kirby Ave., Mt. Airy. If so desired memorials may be made to the Freedom Honor Flight, P.O.
