Lorraine WUENKER Obituary

WUENKER

Lorraine Alice Wuenker died peacefully on August 27, 2015 surrounded by loving family. Lorraine was born the daughter of Evan and Jeanette Lakeman on Dec. 3, 1933. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelors Degree in Education, and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After college, Lorraine taught at Colerain High School. In 1957 she married James A. Wuenker, her husband of nearly 58 years. While raising her two children, daughter Karen and son Jeff, she worked and volunteered for several organizations, including the Forest Hills School Board, Stepping Stones and Knox Presbyterian Church. In 1984, Lorraine started the Stephen Ministry program at Knox; training congregation members to provide one-on-one Christian care to those in times of need. After retiring in 2000, she relished her full-time role as wife, mother and grandmother, while continuing to volunteer in mentoring and caring capacities, touching and positively influencing countless lives as she always did. Lorraine is survived by husband Jim, children Karen and Jeff, grandchildren Ben and Bryn Wirthlin, and brother Richard Lakeman. A Memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers for the family, donations will be accepted for either the Knox Presbyterian Church (Stephen Ministry or Mission Committee) or to the National / Cincinnati Kidney Foundation (www.knox.org or www.kidney.org).

Lorraine, or Rainbow as we knew her, was my beloved aunt. Probably never in the world was there a more dear and gentle soul. Her goodness and kindness was next level, and her brightness helped to redeem us all. She loved her people, her world, her God with continuous faithfulness. She swirls around us all in a state of undying love.

Jim and Lorrie were role models for those of us privileged to be part of their Sunday School youth group at Knox Church many years ago. Her life of service continued to touch my life through her contact and care for my parents as they reached the end of their lives. I shall remember her kindness, constancy, and compassion. My thoughts are with you at this time.

Jim, I was very sorry to learn of Lorrie's passing. I have always admired you both very much. As with all things, she approached her illness with grace. I am thinking of you at this time.

While this was expected, it still breaks my heart to lose such a loving, patient, humorful, mentor. Lorrie and Jim Wuenker are my "second parents" and I have treasured their presence in my life at all critical points of this journey. Knox has lost a true Christian!

Lorrie was such a sweet person and always a good example of Christian love and caring. She will be greatly missed by our family! Our thoughts and prayers go out to our second cousin, Jim, and to Jeff and Karen as well. You are not alone in your grief over this tragic loss.

Lorrie was such a wonderful example of a Godly woman. When I was a young girl, I always admired Lorrie. Years later, I gave birth to my daughter, Laura, and gave her the nickname of Laurie after Lorrie. I will always remember Lorrie's sweet smile, gentle voice, and her devotion to our Lord and her family.
