Colonel Joseph Carroll Bowen
Carlisle, PA - Colonel Joseph Carroll Bowen, 66, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, July 8th, at his residence in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 18th at Linwood United Methodist Church in Lexington, North Carolina, with the Rev. Ed Armfield Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
Born in Asheville, North Carolina, Joe was the only son of the late Carroll Bowen and Lucille Fox. Joe was married to the late Donna Stokes and is survived by their loving daughters, Erin Wheeler and Jennifer Greanias; three grandchildren; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rachel and Frank Stokes of Lexington, North Carolina; and a host of loving friends, neighbors, and colleagues.
In 1976, Joe graduated from Appalachian State University and later went on to earn Masters' degrees from Pepperdine University, Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, and Salve Regina University. As an Army officer, Colonel Bowen served his country with distinction during peace and war and retired after 30 years of honorable service. Upon retiring from the military, Joe embarked on a career as a realtor for 13 years, seven of which were spent with Remax 1st Advantage. Joe was a loyal friend and dedicated family man whose determination, unmatched work ethic, and sharp intellect, were second only to his love of country, belief in doing what's right, and, above all, generosity.
In-lieu-of flowers, donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Newport Chapter 49, New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania or Linwood United Methodist Church, Lexington, North Carolina.

Family, I am so saddened by the news of Joe's passing. I went to Woodfin and Erwin with Joe and last saw him at the reunion four years ago. We are planning our reunion for next year and will miss Joe so much. He was always such a good friend and always had a compliment for the girls. My prayers go out for the family at this time. May all the good memories help you through the days ahead.

To Joe's family...It is with great sadness that I write this note. I have known Joe forever. We attended Woodfin Elementary, Clyde A. Erwin High School, and Appalachian together. Joe could always make me laugh. He was clever and funny, but always kind and sweet. We last saw each other at our 45th high school reunion. Joe will be dearly missed at our 50th next year. May your memories bring some kind of peace during this time of sorrow.
