Richard Hefner Obituary

Richard Hefner

"Proud Father,

Grandfather"

Clyde - Richard "Dick" Hefner, age 76, passed away on May 4, 2013, at The Homestead, surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on July 2, 1936, to the late William and Bonnie Cunningham Hefner.

He enjoyed camping, Braves baseball and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren. Richard served our country honorably for 22 years in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He will always be known for his wicked sense of humor.

In addition to his parents Richard was preceded in death by two brothers, William H. Jr., and Charles (Bones) Hefner.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Myrtle Hefner; one son, Patrick (Trivia); two daughters, Pam Cunningham (Jerry) and Patience Sizemore (Michael); two brothers Jack (Kay) and Conrad (Donna); two sisters Patsy Whittington and Jeannean Wilson; three granddaughters, Abigail Carver (Chad), Alex and Katie Hefner, and their mother Kathy Hefner; one great-granddaughter, Lily Kate Carver.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Chan Chandler officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford-Ray Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends from 1-3:00 PM at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Medwest Hospice at 127 Sunset Ridge, Clyde, NC 28721.

The family would like to offer a word of thanks to the staff and nurses of Davita Dialysis of Clyde for their compassion and care over the years and to the staff and nurses at The Homestead for their compassion and care at the end.

His sense of humor and the friendship during our time we served in the Navy together on the Island of Bermuda. His dear wife Myrtle offered a friendship to my wife Janice. We loved Dick and Myrtle. It was a real Joy to learn Dick (from my home town) in NC was there to be friends. Our thoughts are with the family.
