Obituaries from Two Days Ago

Buchanan, Rev. Bill - Jefferson
Rev. Bill Buchanan Jefferson, Texas - Rev. Bill Buchanan (Bro. Bill) passed May 19, 2016 at the Longview (TX) Regional Medical Center resulting from complications from a fall at home April 18, 2016. Born November 7, 1933 in Spruce Pine, NC to Fred and Etta (Day) Buchanan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and the love of his life, Mable (Robinson), in 2002; his brothers, Frank & Lee; and two dear sisters-in-law, Pearl & Ella. He is survived by two sons; DeWitt (Karen) of Channahon, IL and Jamie (Marne) of Chesapeake, VA and 7 grandchildren; Andy, Hannah, Eagan, Caeden, Jacob, Julia, & Hope. He is also survived by two brothers and their wives who were like sisters; Charles (Kay) of Spruce Pine, NC and Lawrence (Polly) of Burnsville, NC, and a sister (in-law) Grace, of Asheville, NC. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews. Additionally, he leaves behind dear friends and neighbors, Matt and Kathy Whitfield, who cared for him as if he were their "dad". Bro. Bill was a veteran of the US Army, proudly serving in Germany during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he accepted Christ as his Savior in 1959 and soon after announced his call to preach. A graduate of the Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in Hendersonville, NC, he found his calling to bring him life's greatest joys. A country preacher who worked diligently to prepare God's word, he was never happier than when a soul was saved. The desire to serve never left him as he served continuously as a pastor from 1959 until April 17, 2016, except for a brief "retirement" of 6 months in 2004. He served as pastor to 10 churches in North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, and Texas during his 57 years of ministry. He was an excellent Bible-based preacher and a great pastor. He deeply cared for his church families and the communities in which he served. A 'mountain boy", he cherished his roots and always loved to return home. He also loved the plains of llinois and the hills of Tennessee and leaves many dear friends in both of those areas. But Texas became his earthly paradise. Planning to someday retire in Texas and live out his American dream, even the loss of his soul mate could not lessen his love for his new "home" state and the beautiful home place he had always dreamed of together with mom. He achieved all that they had envisioned and lived life as he wanted-preaching and ministering and taking care of his earthly home and yard. We would like to offer a special thank-you to the entire staff at Longview Regional Medical Center. They were ever attentive and excellent in their care-such loving and supportive caregivers. Thank-you for caring so gently for dad! In his honor, memorials would be appreciated to either Hall Baptist Church or to Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Rev. Bill Buchanan on Thursday, May 26, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Sisk, Dallas Renfro, and Fred Proctor officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Webb Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service in the Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. Words of comfort may be e-mailed to the family by going to our website; www.webbfh.com ., selecting Rev. Bill Buchanan's name and then you may sign his guestbook. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine, NC is honored to be assisting the Buchanan family. Rev. Buchanan's obituary has also been posted on Facebook for viewing. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4 was dad's favorite verse of scripture and the way he lived his life.
