Roy Lee Henson Marshall - Roy Lee Henson, 82, of Marshall, died Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at his home. A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late George Wesley and Mattie Kerlay Henson. Roy served in the US Marine Corps and attended Mt. Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Holcombe Henson; brothers, James and Jasper Henson, sisters, Margaret Wright and Emma Dee Laney. Roy is survived by his daughters, Sandra Doan of Marshall, Linda McIlwain of Lake Lure, and Jean Hoard of Rogersville, TN; son, Charles Henson of Marshall; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, December 26th in the Chapel of Faith, Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn. The family will receive friends from 12:00PM -2:00PM prior to the service. Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler. Please visit www.moorefh.net to sign the guest book. Horne, Gwendolyn - Asheville  
Gwendolyn Horne Asheville - Gwendolyn P. Horne, 96, of 41 Grail St., went on to glory December 20, 2014. She was a native of Asheville, NC and the daughter of the late Henry and Agnes Gudger Penland. Mrs. Horne retired from the state of Maryland in 1979 where she worked at Boys Village, a juvenile center in Cheltenham, MD. She was a faithful member of Berry Temple United Methodist Church and served as an Usher, member of Circle #3, the Memorial Guild and other auxiliaries as needed. Mrs. Horne was a member of the Federation of Negro Women, charter member of the Elite Club which she named, Overlook Bible Study Group, NAACP, ABCCM and charter member of the Cinderella Club. Her favorite television programs were Judge Judy and Dancing With The Stars. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Penland. Those left to cherish her memory include son, Frederick "Freddie" Horne; grandchildren, Jerome and Jacquelyn Horne, Shontelle Thomas and Montez Jones; great-grandchildren, Onterro, Jheri and Tomica Horne; great-great-grandchild, Zaniyah Miles-Horne; sister in law Thellena Horne; best friend, Ernestine Rawls; special care giver, Veronica Sanchez; adopted children, Millus Turman, Henry and Fanny Anderson; other relatives and friends. Service will be noon Friday at Berry Temple United Methodist Church with Rev. Patricia Bacon officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. Family visitation will be 30 minutes prior to service. Howell, Ernest - Asheville  
Ernest Howell Asheville - Ernest Howell, age 78, of 164 Ramsey Road died Monday, December 22, 2014. Mr. Howell was born August 21, 1936 in Madison County to the late Luther Guy and Ethel Chandler Howell and was a retired heavy equipment operator with Caldwell Well Drilling. Ernest enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time with his family, whom he loved. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Elizabeth Clontz Howell; daughters, Kathy and Tammy Howell; sons, Billy Grooms and partner Celeste, Michael Howell and wife Donna; sisters, Inez Lominac and husband Kent, Theda Suttles and husband Carmel; brother, David Howell and wife Gail; three grandchildren, Morgan Howell, Richard Swann, Tiffany Wyatt and five great grandchildren. His funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 24, 2014, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Fender officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Flowers are welcome. James Steven Henderson Hendersonville - James Steven Henderson, 47, of Hendersonville, died Monday, December 22, 2014, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. Born February 14, 1967 in Asheville, he was the son of Laura Stevens Gentry and of the late James Marion Henderson, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, George A. Gentry. Mr. Henderson was a fisherman, Nascar fan, and a golfer. He especially enjoyed talk radio, especially Rush Limbaugh. In addition to his mother, Mr. Henderson is survived by his step-mother, Marla A. Henderson of Mt. Holly, NC, one uncle, Samuel Stevens and wife Judy, three cousins, Malia, Tia, and Laura, and his favorite dog, Buck. Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. Hassell, Danny - Asheville  
Danny Hassell Asheville - Danny C. Hassell, 65, died December 14, 2014. Danny was a graduate of John A. Holmes High School, Edenton, NC and attended the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. He later enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for six years. Upon discharge he went into insurance and commercial real estate sales. In recent years, Danny was employed with the Grove Park Inn. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy M. Hassell. He is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Hassell of Canton, MI; mother, Julia M. Hassell of Edenton; brother, Glenn M. Hassell and wife, Donna of Elizabeth City; nephews, Owen Hassell of Elizabeth City and Craig Hassell of Goldsboro; other relatives and friends. Hyatt, Kathy L. - Spartanburg  
Kathy L. Hyatt Spartanburg - Kathy L. Hyatt, age 59, of Spartanburg, SC entered into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, December 18, 2014. Ms. Hyatt was born August 31, 1955 in Asheville, and lived most of her life in Buncombe County. She was a daughter of late J.C. and Nelle Tessner Hyatt. Kathy worked as an EMT-Paramedic in Polk County and retired as a RN from Haywood Regional Medical Center in 2000. Surviving are her sister, Donna Hyatt Gilbert and husband John of Mill Spring; two brothers, J.C. Hyatt, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Columbia, SC, Tim Hyatt and wife Mary of Black Mountain; nephews, Justin C. Hyatt and T. Cody Hyatt; and niece, Sarah J. Gilbert. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, December 22, 2014, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Robert Orr officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome.
