Allen, Joan - Asheville  
Joan Allen Asheville - Brenda Joan Towe Allen, 70, of 20 Wood Duck Lane, went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Elizabeth House. A native and resident most of her life of Buncombe County, she was raised in the Mt. Pisgah area and attended Enka High School. She was formerly employed with St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals. Mrs. Allen was the daughter of the Late Howard and Ellen Dora Arrington Towe and was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean Loftin. Surviving are her daughter, Nicole Wells of Asheville; brothers, Jimmy Towe, Bobby Towe and wife Wanda and Jerry Towe and wife Mary all of Candler; several nieces, nephews and cousins and her beloved dogs, Eli & Honey. Memorial services will be held at 4 PM Wednesday, July 1, 2015 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen V. Oxner officiating. Aydelotte, Dr. Margaret - Black Mountain  
Dr. Margaret B. Aydelotte Black Mountain - Dr. Margaret Aydelotte, 81, of Black Mountain, died on June 21, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday 13 July at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Asheville. Margaret Walker grew up in England, and won a scholarship to Cambridge University, from which she earned three degrees, including a Ph.D., and which granted her a faculty position. In 1961, she married James Aydelotte, then a graduate student at Cambridge. They later came to the USA and taught at Tarkio College MO, University of Iowa, and Franklin College IN. Margaret then taught medical students at Indiana University, and did research in osteoarthritis at Rush Medical Center in Chicago. Margaret and James were also blessed with three children. In 1998, they retired early to WNC, first in Asheville and then at Givens Highland Farms in Black Mountain. Margaret continued teaching in New York, Asheville and Montreat. She volunteered at Health Adventure, and was on the Board of the Black Mountain Center for the Arts. She was an active Rotarian for 20 years, and served on many church committees. A new interest was quilting, winning some prizes and helping make quilts for disaster areas. She is survived by her husband, James; two children, John-Mark Aydelotte (Debora) of Webster Groves MO, and Marian Walker (Gary Conlon) of Dubuque IA; five grandchildren; and two sisters in England. Any desired memorial contributions may be made to the Residents Assistance Fund of the Givens Highland Farms Residents Corporation.

Bailey, Johnny - Asheville  
Johnny Lee "Slab" Bailey Asheville - Johnny Lee "Slab" Bailey passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2015 at John F. Keever Solice Center. Johnny was born August 9, 1945 to the late Eunice B. Satterthwaite and Ben Wilson. Johnny was a graduate of Stephens Lee High School and Shaw University. He was a gentleman, athlete, sports author, activist, leader and spiritual counselor. Johnny was a true warrior, determined and forever learning and teaching. He was preceded in death by two brothers. He is survived by seven children; sister, Patricia Blair (Tommy); aunt, Edna Ashley; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. "Because someone we know is in Heaven, there is a little bit of Heaven in our home" The family extends special thanks to the staff of Mission Hospital and CarePartners. Bastien, Robert "Bob" - Asheville  
Robert "Bob" Bastien Asheville - Robert "Bob" Bastien, age 78 of 33 Marlwood Court died Friday, July 3, 2015. Bob was born March 30, 1937 in New Bedford, Mass. and was a resident of Asheville since 1978. He served in the U.S. Navy and played trumpet in the Naval Band. A 1976 graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, Bob was a licensed funeral director and embalmer and was employed at Morris Funeral Home in Asheville for 20 years and at West Funeral Home for 5 years. He and his wife owned Glenda Kay's Salon in Asheville. Bob enjoyed playing trumpet in the Buddy K. Band. He was the son of the late Anthony M. Bastien and Emily Holden Bastien Emerson. Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Glenda Hawkins Bastien; daughters, Lori Rada of Chesapeake, VA and Melissa Clark and husband Greg of Johnson City, TN; sons, David Bastien of Madison, AL and Greg Ponder and wife Tracy of Mooresville; brother, Kenneth Bastien and wife Gerry of Falls River, Mass. and 8 grandchildren. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 in Trinity Episcopal Church, of which he was a member. Officiating will be Reverend Carol Hubbard. Burial will be in the Garden at Trinity. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5th at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville.
