Edmonds, Meece - Weaverville  
Meece Iola Sprinkle Edmonds Weaverville, NC - Meece Iola Sprinkle Edmonds, 93, of Weaverville, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 in the comfort of her own home in the care of her loving family. Born May 7, 1922 native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Wig T Sprinkle and Bessie Gosnell Sprinkle. She is also preceded in death by her late husband, Rev. James "Big Jim" Edmonds; daughter, Elizabeth Shook; brother, Hugh Sprinkle (Ruth); and brother-in-law, Willie James Cole. Mrs. Edmonds graduated school at Flat Creek. She and her friend and future sister-in-law, Vistula Edmonds Robinson were NC Horseshoe Pitching Champions. Later in life, Mrs. Edmonds enjoyed painting. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Woodfin. Survivors include her children, Gary Edmonds (Wilma), Joyce Robinson (Carl), Patricia Edmonds, Craig Edmonds (Gayle), Wesley Edmonds (Lois), Lonnie Edmonds (Donna), Zane Edmonds (Lena), and Alan Edmonds (Donna); sister, Nina Cole; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 12 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Woodfin with Pastor Zane Edmonds, Rev. Jerry Kent, and Rev. Will Edmonds officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, February 11 at Penland Family Funeral Home Chapel in Swannanoa. Committal services will be at Sky View Memorial Park in Asheville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons International and to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund using PO Box 1401 Weaverville, NC 28787. Elliott, Jonathan  
Jonathan Brett Elliott Candler - Jonathan Brett Elliott, 45, died Saturday, February 6, 2016, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Jonathan was born in Buncombe Co. and was a son of the late Roy Fred Elliott, Jr., and the late Deborah Lou McCarson Elliott. He worked as a self employed contractor. His family includes his wife, Kelly Mann Elliott; daughter, Atley Elliott; and sons, Josh Shaffer and Dustin Shaffer. The family will greet friends briefly at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Burial will be private. The online register is available at www.grocefuneralhome.com .

R. B. English Mars Hill - R.B. English, 74 of Aleesha Mtn. Rd. passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 at Mission Hospitals-Memorial Campus. He was a native of Madison County and son of the late Frank and Lassie Hensley English. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his sons, Gregory Lynn and Ralph Keith English and a brother Charles English. Mr. English was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Linda Haynes English; daughter, Lisa English; son, Gregory Keith English (Brandi); sister, Louise Shelton (Worley); sister-in-law, Emma Sue English; grandchildren, Bryan Dean English (Stephanie), Aleesha Rohe (Dustin), Kendall Nix and eigth great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 14, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends J.D. Deaton and Charlie Robinson will officiate. Ertz, John - Asheville  
John Mark Ertz Asheville - John Mark Ertz, son of Fredrick and Helen, passed away the morning of Feb. 3rd, 2016 at the age of 73. John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nanette; his two sons, Logan and Casey; his daughter-in-law, Amanda; and two granddaughters, Heidi and Gretchen. Born and raised in Burlington Iowa, John was a proud graduate of the University of Iowa, class of 1965, earning a degree in chemical engineering. John worked for DOW Chemical, Rubbermaid Specialty Products before he and his wife opened an art and framing business in San Diego County. John and his wife loved to travel and spent much of his retirement on the road visiting national parks. A baseball fan, John was a long-time season ticket holder of the San Diego Padres and a frequent visitor to MLB's Spring Training in Arizona. As he struggled with the lung disease which would eventually take his life, John spoke often about how great his life had been, and how he had married the love of his life. John was the youngest of seven siblings and the last to pass away. He will be missed by his children, his wife, and the friends and family to whom he meant so much. John M. Ertz will be quietly buried in accordance to his wishes.

Evans, Jerry Cole - Weaverville  
Jerry Cole Evans Weaverville - Jerry Cole Evans, age 79, of Weaverville, NC transitioned to his eternal home on Wednesday, February 03, 2016. Mr. Evans was born in North Buncombe County to the late Roscoe and Victoria Cole Evans. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers Reggie Evans, Ray Evans and sister Lois Chandler. Jerry is survived by his wife Stella; son, Blaine Evans of Asheville, NC; and daughter Stephanie Evans of Greenville, SC. He is further survived by his sister Joyce Miller and husband Guy of Wilcox, AZ; sister-in-law Eola Evans; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Jerry lived a full and blessed life. He was a loving husband and father who delighted in serving others, helping friends and family. He was a Master Craftsman, Mechanic, and all around Mr. Fix-It. The odds are pretty high that if you knew Jerry, he helped you fix something at least once. Jerry served in the US Army, was employed by Douglas Aircraft Company and finished off his career in the Engineering Department at Memorial Mission Hospital. A private family interment service was held at Morgan Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at a later date. West Funeral Home, Weaverville is in charge of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Morgan Hill Baptist Church, 594 Barnardsville Hwy., Weaverville, NC 28787.
