Campana, Carlos  
Carlos Enrique Perez Campana Fletcher - Carlos Enrique Perez Campana, 53, of Fletcher, died Monday, April 13, 2015 at John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. Carlos was the son of Dina Campana and the late Carlos Enrique Perez. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his "spiritual wife Maria"; three sons, Carlos Mauricio Perez, Jonathan Perez, and Christian Misael Perez, all of Ecuador; two sisters, Lorena Perez of Ecuador and Cecilia Perez of Asheville as well as three brothers, Javier and Juan Perez of Ecuador and Francisco Perez of Fletcher. Carlos will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family and the memorial register is available at www.grocefuneralhome.com .

Cleary, Joanne - Sylva  
Joanne Cleary Sylva, NC - Joanne Cleary, 76, died on March 31, 2015, at her home in Webster after a long and valiant struggle to overcome cancer. Her strength and courage in combatting her illness were an inspiration to all who knew her. She is survived by Marilyn Jody, her wife of thirty years; her two children, Jack Cleary and Christy Cleary Hughes; their spouses, Stephanie and Tom; her four grandchildren, Luke Cleary, Soleil Cleary, Beck Hughes and Bryn Hughes; her brother and sister-in-law, Conrad and Patty Corelli, their five children, and the six children of her brother Ronald Corelli, who pre-deceased her. Joanne was buried at a private family service on April 3, 2015, at St. David's Episcopal Church in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Her Memorial Service will be held at St. David's Church on May 17 at 4:00 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Camp Henry Scholarship Fund, St. David's Episcopal Church, PO Box 152, Cullowhee, NC 28723. Before moving to North Carolina in 1991, Joanne was a teacher, coach and counselor in Chappaqua, New York, as well as a competitive tennis player. In the years since coming to Jackson County, her open and generous heart have made her a vital part of the local community. She served on the Vestry of St. David's Episcopal Church in Cullowhee, was a member of the Board of Reach; a Guardian ad Litem; a Hospice worker and a volunteer at the Community Table. An advocate for social justice, she helped establish the Safe Zone Project at WCU and the local chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays); she was a co-founder of Out in the Mountains, a local support group for lesbians and gays; and she was an activist in the Campaign for Southern Equality. Her family and friends will remember her always for her deep devotion to family, her joyous spirit, her kind and welcoming heart, her love of children and the warmth of her beautiful smile. Appalachian Funeral Services is in charge of local arrangements.

Clements Jr., Lee Roy - Asheville  
Lee Roy Clements, Jr. Asheville - Lee Roy Clements, Jr., 78, of Oak Hill Circle, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2015 at his home. A native of Pasadena, TX, he had resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He retired in 1990 with the Asheville Water Dept following seven years of service, was an avid Jeff Gordon and Elvis Presley fan and was a US Army veteran. Mr. Clements was a son of the late Lee Roy Clements and Dorothy Adina Israel Austin and husband of the late Joyce Ann Doan Clements. He was also preceded in death by his step father, C.J. "Chick" Austin. Surviving are his sisters, Ellen Snelson and husband Philip and Shirley Coffey and husband Gary all of Asheville and Linda Kuykendall and husband Steve of Fairview; brothers, Alton Leon Clements and wife Shirley of Camby, IN and James Howard Clements and wife Joyce Ann of Arden and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Friday, April 24, 2015 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. Cogdill, Betty Jane - Sylva  
Betty Jane Cogdill Sylva - Betty Jane Cogdill, 74, of Sylva, went home to be with the Lord Thursday morning April 16, 2015. Born in Macon County, NC, December 7, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John Willie and Ada Adams Cogdill. She was a lifelong member of Buff Creek Baptist Church. She loved to go to yard sales and playing the piano, but what came first was her Church. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother Furman Lee Cogdill and by her sister Lou Fisher. She is survived by 2 brothers, Eugene Cogdill of Sylva and Frank Cogdill of Balsam Grove; 1 sister, Sue Cogdill Caldwell and her husband, Wayne, of Sylva; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday April 18 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Lloyd Fish officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the Service at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Addie Cemetery.
