Coates, Bernice Harwood - Weaverville  
Bernice H. Coates Weaverville - Bernice Harwood Coates, age 83 of Sugar Cove Road died Sunday, May 31, 2015. Mrs. Coates was born October 29, 1931 in Buncombe County to the late Harcus and Esta Burrell Harwood. She was a longtime faithful member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher, Bible school director and soloist. She also had a faithful heart for the mission field. Surviving are her husband of 67 years James "Eugene" Coates; sons, Dennis Coates and wife Doris, Gary Coates and wife Libby; grandchildren, Greg Coates, Scott Coates, Amber Holritz, Brian Coates, and Khrista Quinn. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2015, in Brown's Chapel Baptist Church, 932 Reems Creek Rd., Weaverville, with Reverends Phillip Wilson, Gary Coates and Brian Coates officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at the church prior to the service. West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Flowers are acceptable and appreciated. Head Sr., Rev. The. Jesse - Morganton  
The Rev. Jesse Milton Head, Sr. Morganton - The Rev. Jesse Milton Head, Sr., 88, of Morganton, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, May 31, 2015, in Valdese. The Rev. Head was born October 25, 1926, in Iredell County, the oldest of two sons born to the late Clarence and Maggie Mize Head. The Rev. Head was ordained to the work of the gospel ministry on July 9, 1950, at Hawthorne Road Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. From 1950 through 2005, he pastored Bethel Baptist Church in Yadkinville (1950-1953), Friendship Baptist Church in Morganton (1953-1961), Forest Hill Baptist Church in Winston-Salem (1961-1971), Starnes Cove Baptist Church in Asheville (1971-1986), Mountain View No. 2 Baptist Church in Morganton (1986-1991), and Silver Creek Baptist Church in Morganton (1994-2005). Until his death, he was a member of Silver Creek. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Katherine Duckworth Head of the home; four children and their spouses, Milton and Ivy Head of Mount Airy, Wesley and Mayfair Head of Tallahassee, FL, Anna and Tom Mehaffey of Clemmons, and Jonathan and Glenda Head of Kernersville; his grandchildren, David and Marissa Head of Concord, Lawrence and Kacie Head of Orlando, FL, DeAnne and Paul Danley of Mount Airy, Jessica Ashburn of Washington, DC, Adam and Heather Mehaffey of Gastonia, Abby and Guy Kelpin and Andy and Margaret Mehaffey, all of Winston-Salem, Daniel Head of Middleburg, FL, and Catherine Head of Kernersville; and sixteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, the Rev. Head was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Lorene Dull Head; a grandson, Jonathan Eric Head; and a brother, William Clarence Head. A service of worship and a celebration of the Rev. Head's life will be held Thursday, June 4, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church in Morganton, with the Rev. Larry Cline and the Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the church. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 PM at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem, under the direction of the Rev. Mark A. Reece, Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to their local church or charitable organization. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Head family. Maas, Marian - Muskegon  
Marian Helen Maas Muskegon, MI - Mrs. Marian Helen Maas, age 80, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015. She was born in Muskegon, Michigan on July 31, 1934 to Calvin and Alta (Robson) Riggs and married Jack Maas on July 5, 1958. Mrs. Maas had been employed as a teacher for Montague Schools for 25 years until retirement. Marian was a member of Sand Dollers Doll Club in Muskegon, as well as the Land-O-Sky Doll Club in Asheville NC. Survived by sons, Steven (Angela) Maas of Sterling Heights, Peter (Aimee) Maas of Fruitport; grandchildren, Sarah Maas, Emily Maas, Olivia Maas, Jacob Maas, Joseph Maas; sister, Martha Davis of Asheville. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Margo. The service will be Monday, June 8, 2015, 3:00 PM at Clock Chapel - Muskegon with Dale Clock as Celebrant.
