Esther F. Kirkpatrick Lexington - Esther Nell Fisher Kirkpatrick, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Carolina House in Lexington, North Carolina. Esther is survived by two daughters, Evon Brown (Carl) of Thomasville and Kathy K. Sumner (Jerry) of Lexington; a son, Paul William Kirkpatrick Jr. (Sharon) of Clyde; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Moore, David Riley - Asheville  
David Riley Moore Asheville - David Riley Moore, 88, of Asheville, died Monday, February 23, 2015. A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late William and Eileen Proffitt Moore. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary Jean Fisher Moore, in 2014, and by his brother, James Proffitt Moore. Mr. Moore was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School, class of 1943. He served during WWII with the Army Air Corps. He retired as Personnel Director with the US Postal Service. Mr. Moore was a member of the Asheville Rotary Club, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mr. Moore is survived by his son, Joey Moore and his wife, Lisa Vierra-Moore of Laurel Park, and by his granddaughter, Whitney Moore, of Asheville, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Vance, of Sylva. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Revs. Rodney Hagans and John Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 587 Haywood Rd., Asheville, NC 28806. Sluder, Joe - Weaverville  
Joe Sluder Weaverville - Joe Bunyon Sluder, age 88, of 169 Old Mars Hill Highway, went to be with his Lord on Monday, February 23, 2015. Mr. Sluder was born March 4, 1925 in the Leicester community of Buncombe County. He married Kathleen Bradburn in 1944. They recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on August 26, 2014. He retired after 43 years from Burlington Industries in Woodfin. Joe was a lifelong member of Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church and loved gospel music, especially Blue Grass gospel and loved to travel and sing in various churches. In 1978, Joe and his sister, Margaret founded the Sluder Family Reunion. A son of the late Rev. Daniel Ervin and Hester DeWeese Sluder, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Donald, George and Rev. Jennis Sluder; sisters, Lois Nesbitt, Bonnie Alexander and Margaret Ponder and son-in-law, Carl Luther. Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Sluder of the home; daughter, Doris Jolene Luther of Leicester; sons, Jerry and wife Pat, David, Danny and wife Kristie all of Weaverville and Doug of Candler; brother, Elbert Sluder and wife Gerald of Hendersonville; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Anthony Fox and Doug Sluder (son) officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with his grandsons serving as Pallbearers and the Meal Site Group of the Weaverville Council on Aging serving as Honorary Pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 PM Thursday at the church.
