Asheville - Bernard "Corky" Briggs, 80, of Asheville, went to heaven on Monday, September 30 at the Solace Center in the Charles George VA Medical Center on Tunnel Road.
He leaves his devoted wife of 57 years, Violet Briggs; his two sons, Kent and his wife Lisa and their two children, Alexandra and Cody from Cullowhee; and his son, Randy and his wife Theresa and their two children Morgan and Matthew from Waterford, WI.
Mr. Briggs was a member of the East Asheville United Methodist Church, a naval veteran of the Korean War
and a member of American Legion Post #70. He was also a 32nd degree Master Mason and was a member of the Swannanoa Lodge #561.
Above all, his great love and support for his family always came first with him.
Sincere appreciations go to the staff in the MICU Unit; the 4th West Unit and the Solace Center at the Charles George VA Medical Center for their excellent and loving care. This was a real blessing to his family during the time he was there (8/8/2013 - 9/30/2013).
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Oct. 6, at East Asheville United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Annalee Allen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
A private burial for the immediate family will be Monday at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
