Weaverville - Betty Crowe Goforth, 80, of Weaverville went home to be with the Lord on February 13, 2013 after a brief illness.
Mrs. Goforth, born October 23, 1932, was a native of Buncombe County where she had lived most of her life. She attended Elk Mountain Baptist Church but was often seen attending services and revivals all around the area. She was well known for her fried apple pies and for helping others in times of need.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon Buckner and Virgie White Buckner; stepmother, Ruby Whitt; her husbands, Reverend Wesley Crowe and Herbert Goforth; a brother, Bill Buckner.
Surviving are her daughters, Deborah Edwards (Dean), Pat Staigo (John); step-daughters, Joyce Clements (Tommy) and Sharon Oliver (Mark); step-sons, John Goforth (Cheryl), Leslie Cameron (Michelle); four grandchildren, Chad Edwards (Missy), Travis Martin, Andy Staigo and Valerie McElreath (Scott); two step-grandchildren, Brendon and Nickolis Oliver; five great-grandchildren, Mishayla and Mileah Edwards and Austin, Rebecca and Madison McElreath; a brother, Bobby Buckner (Brenda); several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2013 in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home with Reverends Dale Banks, Furman Wilson and Mike Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in the French Broad Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
