CANDLER, NC - Charles Lee McMahan, Jr., known to his family and friends as C.L. and Mac, passed away unexpectedly on April 25, 2013, exactly three months before his 90th birthday. Born July 25, 1923 in Asheville, NC, he was the son of the late Charles Lee McMahan, Sr. and Mabel Clara Franklin McMahan and brother of the late Nell Franklin McMahan and Charlene McMahan.
He served five years in the U.S. Navy
during WW II mainly in the Pacific Theatre. Upon returning home, C.L. worked 45 years with American Enka and BASF in plant security as well as serving 25 years as a volunteer fireman
with the Enka Fire Department.
He is survived by the love of his live, his wife of 65 years, Dorothy L. McMahan. His son, Charles Lee McMahan III and daughter, Jessica L. Snyder (Kevin McKee), a brother, Franklin E. McMahan, two sisters, Peggy McMahan Linville and Patricia McMahan Walters, five nieces, two nephews, six great nieces, four great nephews and grand dog, "Indy".
C.L. enjoyed life to the fullest. We are privileged to have called him husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed.
A private funeral service and internment will be held at a later date.
