Justice, Jr.

Candler - Charley B. Justice, Jr. (80), of 189 Dogwood Rd., in Candler, passed away January 14, 2013, due to complications with Parkinson's Disease of 22 years and pneumonia. He was born in the upper Spring Creek community of Madison County in 1933 and had resided in Buncombe County since 1960.

He graduated with honors from Western Carolina University with a degree in chemistry, and he retired as a research chemist with American Enka/BASF after 37 years of service.

He was the son of late Breckenridge and Leona Webb Justice. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Plemmons, and four brothers, William, C.J., Ray, and Dean.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy Plemmons Justice; his daughter Susan Ballard and the sunshine of his life, grandson Holden Ballard, both of Weaverville; sister Dortha Smith of Hazelwood; brothers James (Wanda) of Brevard, Edward (Eleanor) of Waynesville; sisters-in-law Mary, Polly, Diane, and Linda; and all of his nieces and nephews who had a special place in his heart.

He served as past President of the Candler Lions Club, of which he was recently honored as a lifetime member. He was known for his love of collecting antique hand tools, making pine knot and sassafras "critters", and wrote four books of poems and short-stories relating to his time at Spring Creek. He also square danced with the Pisgah View Ranch Cloggers for 15 years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Howard Moore, Jr., officiating. Burial will be private.

His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and also from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, prior to the service.
