Earle William Davis

Marshall - Earle William Davis, who was a resident of the Brookside Rehabilitation and Care facility in Burnsville, N.C. died on January 23, 2013. He was surrounded by caring family members, staff members and pastor.

Mr. Davis was born September 30, 1934, and was the son of Clyde William Davis (1907 - 1988) and Bernice Davis (1910-1995) of the Big Pine Community in Madison County, NC. Earle grew up in the Big Pine community and was Valedictorian of his Walnut High School class. He attended Western Carolina University and served his country in the United States Army for two years (1953-1955), including an overseas assignment in Germany. He ultimately became Activities Director at Dorthea Dix Hospital in Raleigh, retiring in 1996.

Surviving are his sister, Faye Davis Massey, of the Big Pine community of Madison County, N.C., and other family members. He enjoyed church services and was well known as an enthusiastic singer of gospel music. Even as his health declined, he carried a Hymnal with him in his walker and never missed religious services at Brookside.

Funeral service will be held at at 11 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home with Reverends Gary Fender and Jerry Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in the North Fork Cemetery in the Big Pine community.

The family will receive friends 10 - 11 a.m. Monday prior to the service.

The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff of Brookside Rehabilitation and Care facility for the loving care provided to Earle and the gracious assistance shown to his family.
