Asheville - Edwin Russell Crisp, 90, of 27 Cranford Rd., died Monday, September 30, 2013, at the Brian Center in Weaverville.
Born November 12, 1922 in Greenville, SC, he was a son of the late Gordon L. and Gertrude Wilson Crisp. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sue Duckett Crisp; and his brother, Jack D. Crisp.
Mr. Crisp lived in NC most of his life. He was a graduate of Cecil's Business College. He was a B17 pilot and squadron operations officer in the 8th Air Force in England during World War II
, where he was awarded the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters.
Mr. Crisp retired from the Farm Equipment Company, after 38 years of service as office manager.
He was active in church work, serving as deacon, teacher, and Sunday School superintendent for many years in Sand Hill Baptist Church. More recently he was a faithful member of Starnes Cove Baptist Church.
Mr. Crisp is survived by sons Robert Crisp and wife Shirley, and Michael Crisp; grandchildren Lorie C. McFee and husband Greg, Amanda Brewer and husband Tony, and Russell Crisp and wife Haley; great-grandchildren Annie, Ariel, Lilly, and Charlie; and sister-in-law Doris Crisp.
His family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Ave., with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. The Revs. Charlie Sams and Warren Williams will officiate. Interment will follow at Emma's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
