Elmer W. Penland
Weaverville - Elmer W. Penland, age 91, of 57 Red Ruby Road, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013.
Mr. Penland was born March 20, 1921, in Buncombe County. He was a US Marine Corps
veteran serving during World War II
and a retired repairman from Ansel's Appliance Repair. Mr. Penland was a member of Ray's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anderson and Nora Ingle Penland; wife, Ruby rogers Penland who died in 2000; sisters, Martha Jenes, Blanche Blu, Elizabeth Sluder; and brother, James "Doc" Penland.
Surviving are his children, Judy Revis and husband Herman and Wayne Penland and wife Carol, all of Weaverville, Emma Buckner and husband Kenneth of Woodfin, Hazel Rogers, Steve Penland and wife Kathy, all of South Carolina; brothers, Junior Penland and Richard Penland; 21 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, January 24, 2013, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Revs. Larry Rogers and Michael Penland officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Mars Hill VFW
Post 5483 Memorial Team. Burial will be in Clark's Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
At other times, the family will be at the residence.
