Eloise Williams Gilreath

Charlotte - Eloise Williams Gilreath, 92, of Charlotte, formerly of Weaverville went home to The Lord she loved on March 21, 2013.

She was born on November 10, 1920 in Mecklenburg County to the late Calvin Knox and Lillian Nantz Williams. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Edwin Moore Gilreath. Eloise was a graduate of Mt. Holly High School, Montreat College and Queens College. During her 52 years of teaching she touched the lives of hundreds of students. Eloise taught for over 30 years in NC public high schools, mainly in Wilkes and Buncombe Counties. After retiring from public schools, she went back to teaching at AB-Tech in Asheville for a number of years. Eloise loved cooking, baking and sewing; but will mostly be remembered for her strong faith in God.

In addition to her parents and husband, Eloise was preceded in death by her brothers C.K. Williams, Jr., Ralph Williams, and Tom Williams.

Survivors include nieces and loving caregivers, Emelda Lawing (Bobby) and Carol Burgin (Charles); also 6 other nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law Violet Williams and Maxine Williams.

A service in celebration of Eloise's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 4, 2013 in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with Rev. Skip Gillikin officiating.
