George Albert Lankton
Asheville - George Albert Lankton, 89, of Asheville, died on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at the Laurels of Summit Ridge.
Born in Herkimer, NY to the late Floyd and Marian Hicks Lankton, he moved to Asheville in 1952. He was a retired Meteoroligist for the National Climatic Data Center, a Cub Scout Master for years, was a member of the VFW
and the American Legion. Mr. Lankton enjoyed traveling with his wife in their Airstream travel trailer. He was a veteran of WWII
having served in the US Navy
and was a member of Groce United Methodist Church.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Roberts Lankton, and a grandson, Jonathan Lankton.
Mr. Lankton is survived by his sons, Gary Lankton, and his wife Linda, of Asheville and Bruce Lankton and his wife, Pam of Old Fort; three grandchildren, Andrea Lankton of Marion, Jason Lankton of Asheville and Tiffany Bieda and her husband, Mark of Colorado Springs, CO; one great granddaughter, Lilliana Bieda; one brother, Floyd Lankton and his wife Bernie, of Orange City, FL.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 31 , at Mountain View FWB Church Cemetery, Leicester with Rev. Gerald Davis and Rev. Avery White officiating. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at Groce UMC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
