JAMES LEE FIELD
COLUMBIA, SC - A memorial service for James Lee Field, 86, will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2012, at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church in Black Mountain, North Carolina, with burial at 4:00 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery, Hickory, N.C. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. Field died Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Born in Meridian, Mississippi, he was the son of the late William Murray and Christine Hunnicutt Field. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering. Mr. Field grew up in Charlotte as a member of Myers Park Methodist Church, served his country in the U.S. Navy
and was a WW II veteran. Mr. Field was an active Rotarian
, enjoyed opera and classical music, reading and antique sports cars, sailing, hiking and biking. He also served the Methodist Church as a Sunday School teacher and a Lay Minister. Mr. Field retired as the Vice President of Manufacturing and Distribution for Comar Industries, Monroe, N.C.
Mr. Field enjoyed his retirement years in Montreat, N.C. where he was active in community service, the Montreat Conference, local government, and his weekly golf group. He was a member of Black Mountain Presbyterian Church where he was a choir member. As the family patriarch, he loved the gathering of the children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends for parties and every July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The family will cherish these Montreat memories forever.
Mr. Field was a devoted family man and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katherine Hester Field; daughters, Molly Field Brown and husband, Hogan, of Columbia, SC, Katherine Field Helms and husband, Chuck, of Florence, SC; son, James Elliott Field and wife, Elizabeth, of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Hogan Randolph Brown, Harrison Franklin Helms, Katherine Christine Helms, Brenton Addison Helms, April Nicole Field and Zackary Kennon Correll.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by son, William Murray Field, II.
