JEANNE TIBBITS BAKER

ASHEVILLE - Jeanne Tibbits Baker, 88, passed away at home on Tuesday February 26, 2013. She is survived by her five children, Paul, Clifford, Gail, Carolyn and Scott; her seven grandchildren, Lisa, Keli, Neil, Cassandra, Claire, Alex and Zachary; and one great-granddaughter, Guiliana. She is predeceased by her husband of 40 years, William F. Baker Jr and her sister, Kay Thompson.

She was born in Albany, NY on November 22, 1924 to the late Stephen and Margaret Tibbits. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Nursing degree from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY on August 17, 1947. She practiced as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York and Roanoake, VA before then focusing on raising her children.

After raising her five children, she retired to Asheville in 1987 and enjoyed working in the yard, visiting with neighbors, shopping at Roses, reading the 'funnies' in the newspaper and listening to country music. In her later years she loved watching television, especially the Ellen Show and Wheel of Fortune. She loved hosting family gatherings on holidays and playing board games and cards with her grandchildren. She was sarcastically funny and lived with much wit and humor, always laughing at someone or something. She had a sweet tooth; she kicked off every morning with an Eggo waffle and syrup, after lunch she had a Krispy Kreme donut and after dinner for dessert, ate chocolate ice cream (her favorite!).

Morris Funeral Home is assisting the family. A memorial service is scheduled for March 15 at the home of Gail and Lenny Mork from 5-8. A graveside service will be held privately at Riverside Cemetary on a date to follow.
