JACKSONVILLE, FL - Kermit Winfred Ray, 84, born and raised in Asheville, NC, passed away on Feb 8, 2013 in Jacksonville, FL.
Mr. Ray was born in Mars Hill, NC on Sept. 30, 1928 to Agnes Angel and Fred Ray. He graduated from Woodfin High School. Kermit served in WW II and the Korean War
and is a veteran of both the US Army
and the US Navy. Mr. Ray was one of the youngest WW II veterans in the State of NC.
Kermit retired from the Electrolux Corporation after 30 years of service. After retirement, Kermit was actively involved in the West Asheville Kiwanis Club. He also spent time volunteering at Starnes Cove Baptist Church, where he was an active member for almost 40 years.
Kermit enjoyed playing golf with his friends. His most treasured past-time was working in his yard and beautifying the woods near his home in Asheville.
Mr. Ray is survived by Lorraine Pressley Ray, his wife of 57 years; his daughter, Marilyn Ray Douglas of Jacksonville, Florida; two grandsons, Zachary Douglas and Presley Douglas, both of Jacksonville, Florida. Kermit has one surviving brother, Eugene Ray (Cynthia) of Asheville.
A private ceremony will be held in Asheville in the spring.
