Asheville - Lawrence Wilson died, Sunday, March 16, 2014.

Lawrence was a native of Asheville and was the son of the late Samuel and Mary Shorter Wilson. He attended Stephens Lee High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Charles George V.A. Medical Center. Lawrence was a member of Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church serving as a trustee, BTU teacher and member of the choir and Sunday School. Lawrence was active with the Shiloh Community Association and Allen Family Reunion. He loved caring for his yard, gardening and was a avid golfer and member of the Skyview Golf Association.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 63 1/2 years, Mary Etta Sims Wilson; brother, Herman Wilson (Lula); sister, Mable W. Foster; sisters-in-law, Rose S. James (Donald), Alzonia Brantley (Joe); brother-in-law, James E. Sims; several nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Spencer Hardaway and Edgar Waters officiating. Burial will follow in WC State Veterans Cemetery with military honors by NC National Guard. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses of the Charles George V A Medical Center and the Burn Unit of the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
