Asheville - Mary Katherine Worley West passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012, in Winston-Salem.
She was born in Asheville to Elizabeth Taylor Worley and Mark Watson Worley on June 19, 1921. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Earl West, and is survived by a daughter, Sandra West Bovender and husband Carl, of Winston-Salem; a son, David E.West and wife Melanie, of Asheville; grandson, Scott Bovender and wife Mary Jo Bauer, of Chesapeake, VA, and grandson, Kiffin West, of Asheville; brother-in-law, Max West; niece, Carolyn Jones and husband Jeff; and nephew, Mark West.
Mrs. West attended Asheville City Schools and graduated from Cecil's Business College. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. A longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, she belonged to the Women's Missionary Union and the Naomi Sunday School Class.
Mrs. West was a descendant of Captain William Moore, the first White settler west of the French Broad River who settled in the Sand Hill section of Buncombe County in 1784.
Services will be held at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday with the Rev. Dr. Buddy Corbin officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
