Melvin Carl Magidson

Black Mountain - Melvin Carl Magidson, 88, of Black Mountain, NC and formerly of Atlanta, GA, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 after a brief illness.

Mr. Magidson was born August 11, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Philip and Augusta Magidson.

Mel had a passion for fly fishing and traveling. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp serving during WWII. Mel was in the first graduating class of men from Florida State University. He taught members of the first FSU football team while working on his Master's degree. He had been in the Insurance business for most of his life. Mel was of the Baptist faith and was a member of First Baptist Church, Swannanoa, NC.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Magidson.

Mel is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy Costin Magidson; sons, Mel Magidson, Jr. and wife, Helen, and Guerry Magidson and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Clay Magidson and wife, Tami, Christopher Magidson, Guerry Magidson, Jr., Laurie Rosenbaugh and husband, Thomas, Martha Oetting and husband, Matthew, and John Magidson; great grandchildren, Anika Rosebaugh, Caden Rosenbaugh, Kortlynn Rosenbaugh, and Lucy Oetting; and numerous friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, January 18, 2013 at 2:00 pm Eastern Standard Time at First Baptist Church in Port St. Joe, FL. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends, Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 Eastern Standard Time at First Baptist Church in Port St. Joe, FL.
