NANCY S. LESKO
ASHEVILLE - Nancy Smith Lesko, of Asheville, N.C., died peacefully with her family at her side, September 17, 2012 at her home in the Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community.
She was born on March 9, 1932 in Columbus, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Oliver F. and Helene Wurdeman Smith. Mrs. Lesko graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Grinnell College in Iowa. She married James M. Lesko on April 22, 1956, and they lived in the Midwest and Europe, before relocating to the Asheville area in 1989.
As her children grew up, Nancy earned her certification as a financial planner and was the founder and president of Lesko and Hartig, Inc. in Racine, Wis. While in Asheville she served on the boards of Family Services and Consumer Credit Counseling and did volunteer work with the United Way, Eliada Homes and Warren Wilson College.
The family wishes to especially thank the devoted caregivers at Deerfield Retirement Community and CarePartners. Their love and support were a blessing and comfort to both Mrs. Lesko and her family.
Nancy is survived by her husband, James M. Lesko of Asheville, N.C. and her three children, Andrew Lesko and his wife, Karen, of North Augusta, S.C., Rebecca and her husband, Steve Heob, of Shell Knob, Mo., and Jil and her spouse, Deborah Kracht, of Palmer, Mass. She also is survived by her two grandchildren, John Lesko of North Augusta, S.C. and Jim E. Lesko of Kettering, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Eliada Homes, Inc, 2 Compton Drive, Asheville, NC 28816.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Asheville, One Edwin Place, Asheville, NC 28801.
