Asheville - Robert Cecil Arrowood, Jr., 86, of 134 Fairview Avenue, Asheville, went to his heavenly home Tuesday evening, May 7, 2013.
Mr. Arrowood was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Rev. Robert Cecil Arrowood, Sr. and Eveyleene Huntley Arrowood. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Arrowood.
Known to family and friends as R.C., he was a devoted family man, World War II Army
Veteran, and a faithful member of Oakley Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He enjoyed Gospel music and visiting Myrtle Beach and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He was employed for over 25 years with the General Services Administration in Asheville, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Jane Landers Arrowood; daughter, Janice Manning; son, Cecil Arrowood; grandchildren, Travis Manning, Nate Manning, Adam Arrowood (Amanda), and Lindsey Arrowood; and great-grandchildren, Hunter Manning and Jayvin Priester; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Dr. Thad Dowdle and the Rev. Tom Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Ashelawn Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
