WILFERD ("WIL") HANSEL

ASHEVILLE - Wilferd ("Wil") Hansel, 82, child of God, entered Eternal Life on January 27, 2013. He was born in North Platte, NE, son of the late Rev. William and Bertha Hansel. He is survived by Margaret (Baden), his wife of 51 years; son, Steven and wife, Joyce Hansel, of Old Saybrook, CT; son, Bruce and wife, Cynthia Hansel, of Rochester, MN; daughter, Karen and husband, Seth Jersild, of St. Joseph, IL; and daughter, Janet and husband, Anthony Cotraccia, of Ithaca, NY. He is also survived by grandchildren, Christian and Jenna Hansel, Emily, Claire and Peter Hansel, Eleanor and Victor Jersild, and Sophia and Greta Cotraccia.

As a Lutheran pastor, Wil served congregations in Mountain Home, ID; Chillicothe and Waverly, OH; Utica, NY; West Henrietta, NY and Coatesville, PA. In retirement, he served a congregation in Bristol, TN. He and his wife enjoyed 12 retirement years in Asheville, NC, where he was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Wil enjoyed playing tennis and volleyball into his late 70's. He loved family time with grandchildren and the fine art of a good card game.

Throughout his life, even when diagnosed with ALS, Wil trusted that the Lord would provide. He lived life on this earth, and lives now in heaven, giving glory to God.

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Friday, February 1 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 51 Wilburn Place, Asheville, NC.
