Asheville - William Henry Crouch, age 84, deceased on December 29, 2012. Born on June 14, 1928 in Hickory, North Carolina, Henry was the eldest son of the late Perry and Floy Mae Crouch. He was married for 60 years to the late Janice Young Crouch, sharing a Christian ministry together in churches in Kentucky, Mississippi and North Carolina.
Henry and Jan were the parents of five children, Sarah Crouch Tucker (Keithen) of Macon, Georgia, Thomas L. Crouch (Ellen) of Asheville, North Carolina, the late Deborah Crouch McKeithan of Charlotte, North Carolina, William H. Crouch, Jr. (Jan) of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Rebecca Hobbs (Victor) of Milledgeville, Georgia. He was the grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Henry graduated from Mars Hill College, Wake Forest University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and had served on the Trustee and Alumni Boards of all three of his alma maters. Countless families and individual lives were touched by his compassionate leadership as a pastor and counselor. He served on many community boards and was a lifetime member of Kiwanis, and the first president of the Southern Baptist Alliance. He especially enjoyed serving as a volunteer police chaplain for 25 years in Charlotte and Asheville, and also served as the chaplain for the NBA Charlotte Hornets for 6 years. Following his retirement from the ministry, Henry served as the Director of Development for the Baptist Theological Seminary of Richmond.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 4, 2013, at 1 PM at the First Baptist Church, Asheville, North Carolina which has been a very special place of spiritual formation, growth and service throughout his life. Immediately following will be a time of fellowship for family and friends in the Crouch Chapel.
Burial will be private and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crouch Leadership Scholarship at the Baptist Theological Seminary of Richmond, Virginia.
