Asheville - Betty Jean Martin, 86, of Forest Hill Dr., died Monday, January 21, 2013.
A native of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Bessie Lawson Martin. She was also preceded in death by brothers Frank Martin and Fred Martin, and sisters Virginia (Martin) Taylor and Edith (Martin) Butterworth.
Ms. Martin was a graduate of Woman's College in Greensboro, NC, and was one of the first presidents of the NC Dieticians Association. She worked as a registered dietician at various hospitals in NC, including Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro. She retired from the North Carolina Department of Facility Services in Black Mountain. Ms. Martin was a member of Kenilworth Presbyterian Church.
Ms. Martin is survived by nephews Bart Martin, Sam Martin, David Taylor, Robert Butterworth, and Jim Butterworth; nieces Marcia Martin Potas and Valerie Butterworth; and numerous great-nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Kenilworth Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Allen Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
