BURR CALDWELL FINCHER

CANDLER - Mrs. Burr Caldwell Fincher was born March 19, 1919, the first daughter to the late Marion Hubert "Hub" and Maude Lee Caldwell who resided in what is now the ranger station in Cataloochee. Mrs. Fincher passed away Monday, November 5th, 2012 at Pisgah Manor in Candler, N.C. at the age of 93.

She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Thomas Milton "Frosty" Fincher. They lived most of their lives on Monte Vista Road in Candler.

She was preceded in death in 1955 by her only child, Judith Anne Fincher, who tragically died of polio at the age of 16, shortly before the vaccine was distributed. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Beulah Elder and Lois Isley and five brothers, Gilmer, Ray, Orville, Henry and Hubert Caldwell.

She is survived by a brother-in-law, Charles Isley of Boone and one sister-in-law, Dolores Caldwell. She is also survived by a cousin, Hattie Caldwell Davis of Maggie Valley and many nieces, nephews, friends and great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Burr worked for many years at John Carroll's Department store in downtown Asheville. She made annual trips to New York as a buyer, often taking with her a list of clients for whom she chose particular clothing. She had a keen eye for fashion and accessorizing and often coordinated the attire of she and Frosty, who were a striking couple even into their nineties.

The memorial service will be held at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church at 725 Asbury Road in Candler on Thursday, November 8th at 2 PM with the Reverend Veranita Alvord officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
