Marshall - Coy Clyde Roberts, 82, of Marshall, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the John F. Keever Solace Center.
Mr. Roberts was born December 5, 1929 in Madison County. He was the son of the late Johnnie and Susie Roberts. Coy was a decorated veteran of the Korean War, earning the Bronze Star and was a member of VFW Post 5483. Mr. Roberts was a loyal member of Long Branch Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Historian for the church. He loved his church and his neighbors. Coy worked on several mission projects and helped build handicap ramps for many people in Madison County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John David; brothers, James, Lloyd, Branson and Ray Roberts; sister, Lea Hall.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Geleen Payne Roberts; three children, Deborah (Mike) Shelton of Weaverville, Clyde (Doreen Collins) Roberts and Brenda (Gary) Wilde all of Marshall. Coy adored and had great love for his grandchildren, Jeremy (Heather) Roberts, Tanya (fiancé, John) Roberts, Andrew (Kathyrn) Shelton, Ben and Sam Wilde. Mr. Roberts was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Tabitha and Mason Coy Roberts; sisters, Margaret Riddle, Opal Rice and Ellen Roberts; brothers, Leonard, Howard and Richard Roberts.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home with Reverends Steve Honeycutt and H.L. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Tillery Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 - 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
