Despina "Diana" Poulimenos

Asheville - Despina "Diana" Poulimenos, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at a local assisted living facility in East Asheville.

Born and raised in Doliana, Evrytanias, Greece, Despina moved to Athens in 1949 to escape the perils of the Greek Civil War in her mountainous region. In 1957, she married her husband of 43 years, Spiro, and resided in Athens until 1974. The family then moved to Asheville, NC. An extremely hard worker for many years, she still found the time to cook delicious meals and desserts, cultivate her gardens, and entertain guests and family. She was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and Philoptochos Society in Asheville NC.

Despina was preceded in death by her husband Spiro; and two sisters, Bessie Moutos of Asheville, NC and Evangelia Koukis of Fairfax, VA. She is survived by her son, Chris Poulimenos and his wife, Catherine; four grandchildren, whom she dearly loved, Diana, Spero, Vickie, and Alexander, all of Weddington, NC; and two brothers, Chris Moutos, and Jim Moutos of Asheville, NC.

A Trisagion Service will be held Friday, November 9 at 7:00 pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Asheville, NC.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 10 at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Michael Vastakis officiating. A funeral procession at Green Hills Cemetery and a makaria luncheon at Hellenic Center will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Foundation/Building Fund.
