Mrs. Grace

Yarbrough Clarke

Woodfin - Mrs. Grace Yarbrough Clarke, 77, wife of John R. Clarke, died at home in Woodfin, N.C. on July 14, 2013.

She was born in Augusta, Georgia, the daughter of George Wesley Yarbrough and Margaret Bell, the granddaughter of William B. Bell, former mayor of Augusta.

She graduated from Richmond Academy in Augusta in 1953 and from Mercer University in 1957 with a degree in elementary/early childhood education. Following her marriage, she had teaching experience in Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia and Colorado where she taught in Head Start and at the Fitzsimmons Army Hospital pre-school program.

She was elected to membership in Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary sorority for educators. She was director qualified for child care centers by the state of Colorado Department of Social Services. Grace was committed to creating activities that were fun for children, resulting in joyous sights and sounds: a child's smile and laughter. She and John lived in Denver for 32 years.

Grace is survived by her husband, John; a daughter, Karen Margaret Clarke of North Charleston, South Carolina; a son, Roger Charles Clarke of Denver, Colorado; a sister, Margaret Yarbrough Arndt of Charlotte, North Carolina; niece, Angela Arndt Haggard of Elgin Illinois; nephew, Paul Chandler Arndt of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; nephew, Keith Clarke of Kansas City Missouri; and nieces, Sheyrl and Joan Clarke of Denver Colorado.

Throughout her life Grace never forgot that it is the little things that make life richer as exemplified by a favorite saying: "Do good..Be kind..Reach out", And Grace lived these words on a daily basis. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held in her honor at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the Unitarian Universalist congregation of Asheville. Flowers are welcome or a memorial donation made to Roundup Fellowship at 2230 Oneida St, Suite 201, Denver, Colorado, 80224.

Funeral services were provided by Asheville Area Alternative Funeral and Cremation Services.
