ASHEVILLE - Hobart Sherman Lambert, 91, died Monday, December 10, 2012, at the John F. Keever Solace Center. He was born in Princeton, Virginia on August 28, 1921. He was the son of Henry Sidney and Effie Maie Crotty Lambert, the fifth child in a family of nine. The family moved from Princeton to Bluefield, West Virginia, where, as the oldest child left at home, he ran the family farm until entering military service at the beginning of WW II. He served four years in the United States Army Air Force and was stationed in England, Greece and Asheville, NC where he met the love of his life and remained. He retired from Square D Co. and was self-employed for several years. He will be remembered by his outgoing personality, sense of humor and his willingness to help others.
Mr. Lambert was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Hayes Lambert; daughter, Carole Lambert Lentz (DeVere); son, Ronnie Lambert (Susan); granddaughter, Julia Waldrop Wise (Todd); great grandchildren, Lauren and Devan Wise, of Asheville; and a sister, Betty Hall of Temecula, CA.
A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at 962 Old U.S. Hwy 70. Rev. C.W. Anthony and Rev. Jack Gassaway will officiate. After the service, the family will be at the home.
The family wishes to thank the residents and staff of Golden Living Center for their love and care over the past few years, and the caregivers at Keever Solace Center.
