James Clifford McCurry

Mars Hill - James Clifford McCurry, 59 of 1537 Calvin Edney Rd. passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Charles George VA Medical Center. He was a son of James Cecil McCurry and the late Iona Mae Johnson McCurry. James was a US Army Veteran having served in Korea. He also was a member of the Madison County Arts Council where he volunteered.

Jimmy never met a stranger. He loved his family and held his friends dear. He was an expert drywall man and painter…some say he was the Vincent Van Gogh of the mountains. He accepted his illness with grace, never complained and appreciated everything his family, friends and the wonderful staff at the VA did for him. We believe he went to Heaven in his usual manner…"Wide open" and probably asked St. Peter "Is there anything I can do to help you." Do what I say, not as I do. "Capiche". We will miss Jimmy for a long long time.

Surviving in addition to his father are two daughters; Patsy Howard (Rob), Christina Skogen (Andrew), sons; Tracy Dean Curtis (Helenjene) and Billy Curtis (Mandy), sisters; Joyce Clubb, Kathy Sprouse and Vanessa Slagle (Lloyd), eleven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, his dog, Jack, special friends; Pat Franklin, Lib Roberts, Jean Stines and the late Winnie Stines and mother of his children Brenda McCurry.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Rev. Perry Burke, Buddy Harwood and John Ledford will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 - 3 prior to the service.

The family will meet at 5:30 PM at Happy Valley Baptist Church following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to: Charles George VA Medical Center (Hospice Division), 1100 Tunnel Rd., Asheville, N. C. 28805.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.blueridgefuneralservice.org.
