Weaverville - Pastor Joe E. Testerman, age 82, of 116 Reems Creek Rd., died Tuesday, July 16, 2013.
Pastor Joe was born March 10, 1931, in Bulls Gap, Tenn., and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He was called to the ministry in 1963 and was the pastor of Harmony Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Asheville for many years. He served in the US Navy on the USS Bataan as a signalman. He enjoyed working outdoors and was a great husband, father and grandfather. After retirement, he was a bus driver for the YWCA. He was the son of the late David W. and Sally Jane Pratt Testerman.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Barbara Hensley Testerman; daughters, Theresa Crowder of Weaverville and Carol Wykle of Waynesville; grandchildren, Zack Crowder and wife Memory, Ben Crowder and Rashada Akbar, Doug Crowder and wife Erica, and Amanda Wykle; great grandchildren, Abigail, Courtney, Samantha, Jonathan, and Audrey Crowder.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2013, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Gene West officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
At other times, the family will be at the residence.
