Lela Ann Minnick went to be with God on December 10, 2012 at her home in Asheville. She was 42 years old.
The Guest Book is expired.
Lela was born in Asheville to parents, Steve and Tricia Minnick. She is survived in death by her daughter, Allie Maria Peterson, also daughter of Chris Peterson of Asheville, her parents and her brother, David Minnick of Asheville.
Lela was a graduate of Charles D. Owen H.S. and obtained her master's degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina.
Lela was loved by all who knew her. She was a devoted mother, and she often went out of her way to be helpful to those she came in contact with. She was stricken with Multiple Sclerosis at 31 and was very active in helping other victims of this and other disabling diseases.
Lela was a dynamic and forceful person. Upon graduation from college she worked as a youth counselor with "last chance" teenagers in a wilderness environment. She set up a county-side program in Oregon to help the children of abused women. The program offered them love, attention, education and structure.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 7:00pm at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church.
